In an effort to celebrate and thank local fire departments during Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 5-11, 2014), Cabot launched a Cabot Gratitude campaign and asked member farmers if they'd be willing to bring some of its new Legacy Collection cheese to local fire departments to say "Thank You" for all they do for the community. We visited the Chazy, Mooers and West Chazy Fire Departments.
Fire Prevention Week was originally established to commemorate the Great Chicago fires of 1871, which killed 250 people and left another 100,000 homeless. It’s also worth noting that at the time a story came out that the fires began when a cow kicked over a lantern while being milked by Mrs. Catherine O’Leary. The reporter who originally wrote the story later admitted to making it up, but Mrs. O’Leary and her cow are still often blamed for the event. See the Cabot Gratitude Farmer Friday blog here
